About Decosys

“Landscape architects design ecosystems.”

This is the mantra of Decosys, a website I started as an outlet for ecology- and design-related ideas.

Every time I look at landscape design schematics or academic journals on ecology, my mind races.

What if we can design like this instead of like that? Is this a more efficient use of materials? Oh, I never thought this minor thing could be ecologically vital!

Thoughts like these have crowded my brain ever since I began reading up on ecological landscape architecture. All the more when I formally learned environmental science for my master’s degree. Landscape architecture. Environmental science. They synergize just oh-so-well. I was brimming with ideas!

I couldn’t allow those ideas to perish in oblivion. So, I began to blog.

Each article was supposed to be a repository of ecological concepts I’ve learned throughout my years. They do still serve that purpose. But the more I wrote, the more I realized writing trains your brain. Train for what? To combine, to synthesize, and to organize facts and ideas.

And so this blog is now my “mental gym”. The more I write, the more nexuses I discover between the two fields. More and more, I learn to appreciate landscape architecture as environmentalism, physically manifested. All the more, I am convinced: landscape architects design ecosystems.

Of course, it’s also a perk to interact with my readers, which sparks joy – intellectually and emotionally.

Besides blogging, I’ve got a slew of other plans for Decosys.

Expect cool things like landscape carbon calculators and perhaps a Pokédex-style plant database (once I get the hang of Python and MySQL). I’m also thinking of starting a YouTube channel where I can post educational content with a casual (and maybe meme-ish) tone.

Again, I’m brimming with ideas as I write this. I hope that as I grow, so does Decosys. And I’d absolutely love if you can join me in this journey of growth.

See you all!
